Formally retiring — removing dead, unused, or redundant code
Formal deprecation marks something as no longer recommended, with intent to remove. It is the beginning of a retirement lifecycle, not the end. Deprecation creates a record: this existed, it served a purpose, and its use is now discouraged in favor of a defined alternative or its outright absence.
In software, deprecation gives dependents time to migrate before removal. The deprecated artifact remains present but marked; its removal follows in a later change.
